Ever since the beginning of time, God has been faithful to protect His people. Remember when Abraham let Lot choose the better land? He knew God would protect him. When Moses stood in front of Pharaoh? God had promised to protect him. Over and over in the Psalms we can read about David and his reliance on God’s protection from his enemies. God was faithful to protect His people over and over again.
But there were times when He wasn’t. Just the other night I read the story of the tower of Babel. The people were seeking to “make a name for themselves.” They were self-promoting, self-serving, and self-reliant. In the end, God didn’t offer His protection. Rather, He caused confusion and dispersed them as He had commanded them.
I feel a great sense of protection over House of the Harvest. Mostly, I think, because I feel God has blessed us with a tremendous responsibility. Wouldn’t I be an unfaithful steward to not guard and protect it with all of my heart?
Unfortunately, one of the things that we have to guard against at House of the Harvest is a “self-promoting” spirit. All of us are susceptible to it at times, but often people come with the desire to work, but work with this type of spirit. In just a few short months at HoH, we have seen Satan try to creep into our work so that people could bring honor and glory to themselves…not to God. It happens in our churches, our homes, our neighborhoods, schools, etc. It happens all the time…because the “pride of life” is a weakness of human flesh.
But I have been continually amazed at how God has protected House of the Harvest by exposing these situations before they have opportunity to grow. I don’t really want to share details, because that isn’t keeping with God’s spirit either. But I do want to take this opportunity to thank the LARGE majority of our volunteers that humbly come to House of the Harvest to work, serve, be in “community”, and to show a glimpse to others of the grace, mercy, and love that was shown them at the cross.
And of course, I want to thank our Father above for His Almighty Hand of protection over us. It is our desire that House of the Harvest would be a place where people model Philippians 2:2-8…
“of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
We are blessed by so many who are an example of these of verses that people can see with their own eyes. I truly believe that House of the Harvest is a place where Jesus would spend a lot of time if He were on earth today. And…that is why we are protected by an Almighty Hand!
